From local artisan to collaborating with a global luxury brand: The story of Vancuterie

SEATTLE WEB DESIGN & BRAND STRATEGY CASE STUDY

The Brief

  • Client: Vancuterie | Seattle, WA

  • The Focus: Shopify Redesign into a more premium editorial look & Up Leveling their systems architecture

  • Key Milestone: Revenue growth & Tom Ford Beauty partnership

  • The Outcome: A digital home that mirrors Vancuterie’s museum-grade artistry

Vancuterie is a studio defined by the meticulous. Specializing in the ancient, heritage-rich Japanese art of flower pressing, founder Daphne preserves fleeting beauty into lasting legacy. When we started working together, her digital presence was pretty, yet it lacked the gravity required to support her expanding vision and the brand she was trying to create. Our goal was to bridge the gap between her museum-grade artistry and a sophisticated, high-ticket business model.

The Strategic Pivot:

Artistry alone is not an experience. For a trustworthy brand, the transaction must be as seamless as the art itself. Before we started working together, Vancuterie was navigating high-end commissions through manual workflows and Venmo payments, a process that created friction for their target audience - brides already overwhelmed by all the event planning.

Re-desgining Vancuterie’s website was not just about the aesthetics; it was about building systems.

We replaced the fragmented DIY approach with a bespoke e-commerce system designed with Shopify, that signaled professional authority from the first click. Given the custom nature of her work, we also integrated a chat system within the website so that customers can ask questions directly. This integration has greatly improved her conversion and client trust by removing the need of back and forth texting.

The seamless buying experience, complemented by an elevated design, gave Daphne the space to stop managing her business and start leading her brand.

The Immersive academy:

Daphne is deeply passionate about her art. When we started working together she was still toying with the idea of an immersive flower pressing course. Through our strategy sessions, we were able to flesh out that idea more clearly. In order to properly launch the Vancuterie Immersive Flower pressing course—a $3,850+ three-day course—we had to make sure the website did the heavy lifting of building trust. We included multiple areas within a website to provide subtle trust signals. From adding actual messages by clients, to integrating Google reviews, everything was strategically placed. By using high-quality closeup imagery of her work and highlighting her experience in the traditional Japanese flower pressing technique, we built the trust a student needs to commit to her course. This removed the barrier to entry for interested students, resulting in a successful, high-margin debut.

The Tom Ford standard

The ultimate validation of a refined brand is the company it keeps. This happened for Vancuterie when they were approached by Tom Ford beauty for a brand activation experience for their Black Orchid campaign. I still remember the email Daphne sent me that day and the joy on her face during our meeting after.
By crafting an editorial-grade portfolio and a strategic digital presence, Vancuterie became brand-ready for global luxury houses. Their aligned presence directly paved the way for a collaboration with Tom Ford Beauty positioning a Seattle-based creative studio on the international stage! And we are certain, this is only the beginning of what’s to come for this local artisan.

We believe, design is only as good as the business it supports. For Vancuterie, Unpuzzling the brand meant building a system that allows for growth without increased manual labor. Today, their studio is one of the best in the floral preservation space in the Seattle/Portland area and is backed by a digital presence that commands a premium.

Your Invite

I always feel a sense of pride seeing our clients recognized for their work. When your artistry outgrows your digital presence, a website is no longer just a page, it is an asset for your next tier of expansion, it’s an investment into your future.

If my work aligns with your vision I invite you to book a discovery consultation to discuss how we can build a digital home that commands the premium your work deserves.
